Digitally Reimagining Swedish Tourism through Immersive Storytelling

As global travelers seek more profound, more meaningful experiences, TENSION Graphics has partnered with some of Sweden’s most iconic cultural institutions to reimagine the way audiences explore history and heritage. Powered by the VITS platform, we have developed rich, interactive experiences for destinations such as Carl Larsson-gården, the Zorn Museum, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and Travel Guide Dalarna.

The Challenge

Cultural tourism is deeply tied to place, but how do you open these experiences to a global audience? The goal was to make Swedish heritage accessible to anyone, anywhere, without compromising the emotional or educational depth of an on-site visit. Museums and tourism boards sought to engage younger audiences, enhance accessibility, and develop digital offerings that complemented physical spaces.

The Solution: Interactive Tourism Experiences

TENSION launched the VITS platform, our adaptable, interactive storytelling system, to bring each destination’s unique story to life. Using 360° photography, layered illustrations, 3D reconstructions, sound design, gamification elements, and adaptive user interfaces, we built immersive digital tours that captured the heart of each site.

Here are examples of how VITS was tailored to each project:

  • Carl Larsson-gården:

A 360° guided digital walkthrough lets users step inside the artist’s famous home in Sundborn, featuring layered voice narration, hand-drawn overlays that highlight key artistic details, and hotspot-triggered mini-stories about the family’s life and furniture design.

  • Zorn Museum:

To celebrate Anders Zorn’s legacy, we integrated archival images, audio narration, and interactive floor plans into a digital companion experience. The interface connects Zorn’s artwork to his personal story, allowing visitors to explore more before or after a physical visit.

  • UNESCO World Heritage Sites (Falun Mine):

VITS was utilized to create an educational virtual tour of the historic Falun Copper Mine, featuring multilingual support, interactive maps, and layered historical reconstructions that explain the mine's global impact across centuries.

  • Travel Guide Dalarna:

This tourism-wide collaboration involved multiple regional sites. Through mobile-first experiences, users can explore locations digitally with dynamic storytelling, voice-guided navigation, and integrated gamification elements, such as quizzes and badges—encouraging real-world visitation.

Each implementation utilized VITS’ modularity to align with the destination's audience, language needs, and physical environment. Whether accessed via desktop, mobile, or on-site screens, the platform was designed to be inclusive, educational, and emotionally engaging.

The Result

The VITS-based tourism experiences have helped modernize and globalize Swedish cultural destinations. These tools serve as powerful assets for education, international marketing, and visitor engagement, whether accessed before, during, or after a physical trip. The success of these initiatives demonstrates how technology, when applied thoughtfully, can bridge the gap between tradition and innovation.

TENSION’s work in cultural tourism demonstrates the potential of digital experiences to make heritage more inclusive, interactive, and inspiring for audiences worldwide.
